Freak Out Total Volume 3
CD, MGCD005, Mucho Gusto 2005Compiled by famed Montreal vinyl freak, Satan Bélanger, this cd boasts psych-pop gems from France, Belgium and Quebec, originally released in the late sixties and in the 70's. Featuring Les Lunours, Stella, Tony Roman, Réjean et Pierre, Evolution Phase 1 and more, the 15 tracks goes from Quebecois kazoo to French psych and Belgian acid-fries. There's fuzz, there's screams, there's heavy cosmic trips.
1968, Satan Bélanger sprinkles some brown sugar over his Rice Krispies. He is fascinated by his older sisters' records: Stones, Beatles, Animals. Years go by and these near virgin ears are now haunted by Hendrix, Cream, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. LSD replaces the brown sugar on the cereals and the various kinds of "fumes" can't really hide his interest in the outrageousness and amplitude created by the mighty FUZZ. As he is soon to become a professional drop-out, differentiating himself from the crowd, he starts a quest to unearth the kooks, the obscure and neglected, in order to promote them. 3 decades laters, 12,627 - 60's compilations later, the pudding is ready : FREAK OUT TOTAL.
